i’m turning 27 next week.
So the place I previously worked told me they’re going to take legal action against me for not producing “intellectual property” in a timely manner. The property is the website I was attempting to set up for them. However all of the login information and any access info was left at the store before I even quit.
1. I was never in a contract to do the website in the first place, nor was I hired to do it. No written contract ever took place.
2. They have all the website access info, I have no extra information, but will not teach them how to do it myself since I learned on my own and if they asked me to in the beginning I would have.
Maybe it’s bratty of me, but they never took an interest in the project they demanded me to do until I quit. Now they think I don’t know my legal rights?
I’m a full time student and I work 30 hours a week. I won’t go teach someone how to use a website for free after they’ve threatened me. Besides, the help area is obviously on the website and there is phone and chat support offered 24/7.
Basically they can suck a dick.
A piece of advice when going into any sort of job, freelance work, or contract. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. Get everything in writing and know what your rights are. People will try and take advantage of you. Fight back.
